The Riviera has found its way onto the bookshelf, and it has brought the garden along. Moominpappa stands at a blue doorway in his top hat, Moominmamma beside him, and Little My is down among the flowers. This ceramic vase is shaped like a closed book, with the scene on its front and an opening at the top for a few stems of your own.

A familiar doorway, in full colour

Blue climbing flowers, yellow leaves and Little My's red dress at the foot of the steps make the Riviera artwork worth a closer look. The illustration carries around one side of the ceramic, while the ridged white edge on the other looks like the pages of a book. There are no pages to turn, of course. The Moomins have already provided quite enough to look at.

Let the flowers join the picture

Add a little water through the top opening and arrange a few trimmed fresh stems above the illustrated garden, adding something real to the flowers on the cover. A modest arrangement suits the compact vase: give it a stable place on a sideboard, desk or shelf, where the blooms and the blue doorway can both be seen. After the flowers are finished, wash the ceramic gently by hand.

For the shelf beside the stories

Even empty, the vase looks at home among Moomin comics and other favourite reads, with its shaped pages and colourful illustrated front. It makes a considered birthday or housewarming choice for someone whose reading corner usually has a few flowers nearby. Between arrangements, leave the little Riviera scene on display; there is no reason to put the book away.
