Some mugs have a character printed on them. This is Gromit. The original Half Moon Bay Gromit shaped mug turns his whole famously expressive face into a generous 500ml ceramic cup, finished with hand-painted detail. Official Wallace & Gromit merchandise and an internet cult favourite in its own right, it gives one of Aardman’s most loved characters a proper place at the tea table.

Gromit, Usually Two Steps Ahead

Since A Grand Day Out, Gromit has been the steady, observant half of one of animation’s great partnerships. Intelligent, well-read, resourceful and loyal, he is usually the one who notices the problem while Wallace is still admiring the invention that caused it. Aardman describes him through his sharp wit and kind heart, but much of the comedy has always lived in what he does not say.

That makes a shaped mug particularly fitting. The long ears, watchful eyes and unmistakable black nose do not need a slogan or speech bubble; Gromit’s expression has been doing the work for decades. The hand-painted ceramic finish gives those sculpted features the detail they deserve without turning the character into a generic printed novelty mug.

A Proper Place at the Tea Table

With a generous 500ml capacity, there is room here for a substantial tea, coffee or hot chocolate. Bring Gromit out for breakfast, elevenses or the afternoon brew and he looks entirely at home beside the kettle — a small piece of 62 West Wallaby Street domesticity between grand ideas.

The mug is hand-wash only and should not be used in the dishwasher or microwave. Between brews, the full character shape gives it enough presence to leave on display rather than disappearing into the back of the cupboard.

The Original Gromit Mug

This is the original Half Moon Bay Gromit shaped mug: the design that developed a cult following online and became the object behind the “Gromit Mug” meme. When the shaped mug was sold out, people even found ordinary mugs printed with pictures of it — the wonderfully absurd “Gromit mug mug”.

That bit of internet history now sits alongside decades of Wallace & Gromit affection. Presented in a Wallace & Gromit branded box, it makes a particularly knowing present for someone who loves Gromit, Aardman or British stop-motion — although keeping it for the next tea break is entirely understandable.
